How to entertain yourself
Title of the class: English Practice
Age of students: 18-19 (3d year of studying )
General topic(s) of the unit that is being studied: Games and Hobbies
Topic of the class: Childhood hobbies
Goals of the class:
- Practical:to practice reading and writing skills; to train the skills of making a dialogue; to enrich the vocabulary concerning the topic “Games and Hobbies”.
- Professional: to develop the abilities to express oneself freely; to train the skills of self-control and criticizing.
- Sociocultural: to develop the culture of communication on the Internet.
Course of the lesson
- The class starts with learning new material on the topic "Hobbies" - students do exercises to practice new vocabulary.
- The next step is to read a small text and then play the game: the teacher gives each student cards with the hobby and he/she has to show it to the groupmates without telling the word.
- Then students create a discussion about their childhood hobbies and answer the questions (briefly) by writing posts and comments:
The teacher then checks the posts and comments to them and makes his/her own comments for each web-log.
Home assignment: Students are to write an essay - "The craziest hobbies I've ever heard about" in their web-logs (discussed during the next class).

The topic is one of the most favourite among the students! They are usually so excited about their hobbies, and this theme is the best discussed and shared. To use weblogs concerning this topic means to create more possibilities for students to speak best of all about their specific hobbies, about the things they love, to describe as bright as possible. The arrangement of the publication is in line with the topic.
ВідповістиВидалитиI find this English class very interesting :) Both discussion and writing tasks are present. I like the idea of posting a letter or a dialogue in a blog - a choice which gives students an opportunity to express themselves better. And the hometask is also very good, because for example in presentation of the hobbies one can not fully express his/her thoughts about different types of hobby. And in the comments the students will be able to discuss their attitude towards differen crazy hobbies :)
ВідповістиВидалитиI think that the structure of the class is logical. The material is appropriate for the level of students. It is interesting that in this case it is the teacher who is supposed to comment to the post. I think it brings an interesting feeling of excitement to the process of evaluating! :)
ВідповістиВидалитиAll the activities are creative and unusual. The use of the game makes this lesson entertaining, while making students remember the new vocabulary.
ВідповістиВидалитиWhen I was reading the task №3, I realized that I was thinking about the answer on the first question. And I, personally, would like to answer it by writing a short post, because I find this topic fascinating, as it makes us remember our childhood even for a moment.
A big part of the lesson is built on the use of blogs during English lessons, which makes this lesson interactive and interesting for students.
The topic of the lesson should be really entertaining for students. All of us like to share our childhood memories about our hobbies. Furthermore i'm pretty sure that those ideas thet may come to the minds of the groupmates may evoke the desire to try out some of the hobbies. Sharing the ideas with the help of web-logs is a great idea - all of students may read the posts of others and find something new for them or recollect something they have already forgotten..)
ВідповістиВидалитиDespite of the mentioned above fact that the topic is really appealing to students, the way how the class is organized is also interesting. It would not be boring for students just to make tasks in the book or discuss some ideas, as they are used because of the web-logs. They help to vary the time and the way of teaching. What is also good, is that the home task is connected with web-logs as well, which helps students to learn how to use modern technologies quicklier and with more interest.
